Halloween 2022

We are approaching Halloween/All Hallows' Eve/Samhain.

This marks the mid-point between the autumn equinox and winter solstice. It is a time when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead thins. In northern Europe it was a time of animal sacrifice and ancestor worship, praying the tribe would survive the winter.

In the psycho-spiritual seasons of the human psyche this is the time of going inwards to face aspects of the self that we try to hide and bury so we do not need to feel them. These are usually unpleasant emotions like shame, anger, fear which Carl Jung referred to as 'the Shadow'.  It is the time of the 'Dark night of the soul'.

Although hidden from us, our shadow aspects are often all to visible to others. They make their presence know in different ways...most strongly when we are triggered by the behaviour of another which we judge, not realising it is also part of out make up that is ready to be brought into consciousness so it can be transformed and released (this is obviously not always the case - some behaviours and actions must be judged and condemned and have nothing to do with us or or projections of our shadows).

The hype around Halloween has echoes of these processes with ghosts and ghouls and trick or treating. But we can go beyond the multi-packs of plastic wrapped sweets, hypersexualised fancy dress costumes and disposable tatt and use this time to clear some of our own shadow complexes. If we make the right offerings (which today simply means putting some physical and emotional effort into facing our own shadow...no animals will be harmed) we might perhaps even receive assistance and guidance from our ancestors and other realms.

This Shadow Dance Ceremony is the opportunity an opportunity to work consciously with the energies of this powerful time.
