Spring Equinox 2022

Together we will make time to create a sacred space in order to celebrate the spring equinox. The spring equinox is a point of balance between darkness and light, our sacred feminine and sacred masculine, our internal and external worlds, our hearts and minds. It is also the time of birthing of new ideas and of new life emerging.

From this point forward, and for the next 6 months until we reach the autumn equinox, the hours of daylight will exceed the hours of darkness. In order to arrive at this point we have passed through months where the darkness has been predominant, both for us as individuals and as a collective. Darkness is part of nature, without it there would be no light.  Nature uses the dark times to turn inwards and rest in order to emerge into the new light, born again.

This is therefore a time of hope and a celebration of new beginnings: the blackthorn blossom in the hedge rows, snowdrops, daffodils and lesser celandine brightening road verges and gardens, spring lambs bouncing in the fields. It is a time of birth and emergence.

Ask yourself: what eggs of inspiration have you been hatching during the dark months? What is now pecking at the shell from the inside, ready to be born? What do you want to bring into the world at this time?

In preparing for this ceremony the events taking place in the Ukraine have never been far from my mind. Just as we appear to be emerging from years of restrictions and fear that accompanied covid we are now witnessing immense suffering affecting millions of people as well as being reminded of the ever present existential threat of thermo-nuclear omnicide.

What does it mean for us to be in balance with these external events? How can we integrate these seemingly opposing energies? How can we rejoice at the emergence of new life and new ideas while simultaneously acknowledging the trauma and suffering that is occurring in the world? Where are we at war in our own lives?

In contrast to this metaphorical increase in darkness, there has also been an increase in solar activity over the past few months, in the form of coronal mass ejections and solar storms. A literal increase in light is reaching us. It is known that these solar events have an impact on electromagnetic communication systems like orbiting satellites (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-60317806 ) and also on human health.

The physical effects of an increase in geomagnetic activity have been studied and found to include include: ‘intensification of existing diseases, significant increases in myocardial infarction incidence and death, changes in blood flow, aggregation, and coagulation, increased blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, and seizures in epileptics’ (McCraty, Rollin et al. “Synchronization of Human Autonomic Nervous System Rhythms with Geomagnetic Activity in Human Subjects.” International journal of environmental research and public health vol. 14,7 770 doi:10.3390/ijerph14070770 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5551208/ ).

NASA and other experts predict that the sun’s activity will continue to increase over the next few years, as part of it’s 11-year cycle, peaking in 2025. So we have more of this to come.

The “official forecast” comes from the Solar Cycle Prediction Panel representing NOAA, NASA and International Space Environmental Services (ISES) (https://spaceweatherarchive.com/2022/01/09/solar-cycle-25-update/)

Disrupted communication systems and increased stress on physiological systems are not the only effects of these solar storms. Many empaths and people who are concerned with spiritual development can sense these solar events through psychological and physical symptoms. Some, including me, believe that this solar activity is helping to precipitate the evolution of our collective human consciousness. See geobiologist Dr Rory Duff in conversation with astrologer and psychologist Dr Heather Ensworth https://youtu.be/uNirK0UNV1s and wayshower Amanda Lorence https://youtu.be/_SOtiCWUcYI.

These times are therefore asking us to receive and process both more darkness and more light. We cannot deny or suppress either of these powerful archetypes. Instead of wishing for one and denying the other we can invite the energies of both to move through us.

It is only by acknowledging and balancing these contrasting forces in our internal world that we can hope to influence them in the external world. As within so without, as above, so below. This spring equinox trance dance ceremony is an invitation to do just that, to embody and bring into consciousness both the light and the darkness we hold inside of ourselves in order to arrive at a point of balance. Now, more than at any point in our lifetimes, the ability to find our equilibrium, our own point of balance, is of vital importance for our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing and perhaps even survival.

“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.”

― Rumi

Let us come together and dance!

With love and blessings,
